Invitation to meet with President and Senior Management Team
Dear Students,
Further to my email to you on 2 October, and as pledged by Provost when he met with some students earlier this week, I would like to update you about our plan to “Let rational discussion and respect prevail”.
After four months of social turmoil, we are all heartbroken. It has been a difficult time for everyone psychologically and mentally. Your psychological well-being, the ability to develop and thrive amidst the unrest, and personal safety are of our top priority. It is only with positive thinking and hope that we can rebuild our strength, and with concerted efforts that we can provide a safe and inclusive environment for all to learn.
To this end, I will join you, together with members of the Senior Management Team, at gatherings with the aim of exchanging views, listening to and addressing your concerns. Through these gatherings, we hope to provide you with support and communicate through in-depth discussions.
These gatherings will be in the form of groups in warm and cosy settings, in which you can freely express your views and concerns. We will ensure every student who wants to participate in these gatherings gets a chance, with time slots at different times of the day to choose from, including breakfasts, lunch or night-time meals. The schedule and registration details of these gatherings will be announced by the Office of Student Affairs next week. Ground rules will also be laid down based on the principles of mutual respect for a diversity of views, fairness, and tolerance.
With the shared goal of enabling you to learn normally in a safe and inclusive environment, and helping those who are in need, let us work hand-in-hand. Let rational discussion and respect prevail.
Best regards,
Roland T Chin
President
